Love This Rugby Inspiration! World Cup 2011

As the 2011 Rugby World Cup kicked off yesterday morning as host nation New Zealand took on Tonga, and with my team, the Springboks taking on Wales on Sunday morning, I thought a bit of Rugby Inspiration would be great for The Good Girls Guide!

For all my international readers, the RWC is a big thing in SA, so much so that we’ve introduced Bok Fridays at work where we’re all dressed in springbok gear, springbokkies get drunk (peppermint liqueur with amarula) and the competitive spirit arises between each department!

But for today’s post on The Good Girls Guide, I’ve pulled together some great rugby inspiration that is sure to get your creative juices flowing. To the bokke, I say COME ON, to all of you, I say, Why Not?

Rugby World Cup 2011 – let it be all that it’s meant to be!

Vintage Mood Board | Sunday Loveliness

Creative mood boards are an excellent way of finding a new style or look for your wardrobe or room makeover, decor, design inspiration or more. It’s also a brilliant tool for brides when deciding on a look and feel for their weddings!

Today’s lazy Sunday post (well, before  I got for a run at least!) is a vintage inspired moodboard – gathering the look and feel of a yesteryear era. I love the big curls, big lashes, colours of the photos, pearls, lace and silver jewellery, the old-fashioned swimsuits, the big cars, old typewriter and faded books…it just says Vintage!

Imagine taking this into a room into your home – a redone wardrobe, a photo feature on the wall, an old-fashioned dressing table…or imagine making it your wedding theme: dusty pink and lace, soft roses, books and silver goblets on the tables, ribbons of satin and crepe…

So be inspired! Make your own mood board! Create on online with a Pinterest board, or simply get some relevant magazines and create your own. Have a super Sunday 🙂

Cupcake Inspiration | Yummy Ideas to Impress

Here’s something gorgeous to oogle over this morningSERIOUSLY decadent and delicious cupcakes! I have a lovely group of girlfriends and we have bookclub every so often – and trust me – at least ONE will bring along a plate of superb looking cupcakes that we all applaud, take a sip of red wine and then declare:

“I could never make something that looks that good!”

The thing with baking (as I’m slowly learning) – sticking to the recipe is actually quite key. It’s not like a stirfry or curry or whatnot that you just chuck things into, it’s about ensuring your measurements are exact. Once the actual thing is made, well then all it comes down to is, creative decoration:

Some great ideas for easy Wowing, Applauding, Red Wining & Declaring:

  • cute fruit like rasperries, blueberries or strawberries
  • some sparkly edible things like silver balls
  • a great recipe for delicious-tasting icing
  • food colouring
  • a dollop of cream or caramel or whipped custard
  • cute paper cups
  • a shake of icing sugar over the lot
  • a gorgeous plate to serve on

And that’s Cupcake Inspiration. Yum!

Drop the Ceiling

Lower that High Ceiling with a Chandelier | source here.

> bring down the height of your bedroom ceiling with a low-hanging chandelier or two. It creates a great focal point and prevents people from looking up too high <

Create a Dark Feature Wall | source here.

> innovative use of a dark colour paint on just one wall in your bedroom (behind the bed is good) creates a dramatic feature point, anchoring your main furniture and also offering options to match colours throughout <

> making the most out of a small space or odd space is often tough – here a bed, couch and desk area compliment each other and the small space is hardly noticeable <

Pop a Wall with a Photo Collage | source here.

> decorate a plain wall with a detailed feature: here a collection of similarly framed photos. This makes a larger room more intimate and is a great way of displaying photographs or memories <

Create a Soft Space with a Brick Backdrop | source here.

> bedrooms don’t have to conform to smooth painted walls. brickwork, stonework and even wood-plastered walls can be effective, dramatic and create a unique atmosphere <

Go Retro with a Warehouse Feel | source here.

> using smooth cement floors, a low-lying futon and a minimal use of other furniture, means you can create an artistic warehouse space, without the space being massive. Great for converted bedrooms or rooms that are oddly designed or built <
