Wow, I realised I haven’t had a chance yet to post on The Good Girls Guide this year yet (slightly embarrassed)…life has just picked off straight where I left it on the 21st of December when I went on leave.
After 2 glorious weeks of relaxing, swimming, eating and soaking up a simply incredible Cape Town summer (nice and hot), it was back to work with a bang. Throw in a body now well on the way into 30 weeks of pregnancy, a husband about to be caught up in the madness of a new school year (he’s a teacher), the realisation that I have to get all my ‘affairs’ in order before heading out on maternity leave in just a few short months…well it was rather a lot to take in!
The good thing is that I never doubted it could and CAN all be done. God is just so constant and present in my life right now and He has such control over little piece – I can walk through a day of back ache, last minute supermarket visits, and forgotten laundry knowing that despite all those very ordinary things, He is still with me.
I’m also feeling rather inspired that while 2014 is bringing the biggest change to my life in 29 years, it’s a year that is ever so slowly motivating me to be the best I can be, and the best God wants me to be. Whether that’s being the best new mom I can be, the best wife, friend, sister or daughter, I was called to never settle for just being normal. Here’s to 2014.
So apparently Blu Ivy and North West have the most gorgeous baby rooms in the world – and I imagine, probably the most expensive. While we aren’t Beyonce & JayZ or Kim K & Kanye, it’s entirely possible that we can throw together a beautiful nursery too 🙂 Think vintage pieces, wall stickers, a coat of paint to match theme or gender, your old cot repainted and refurbished, some lovely stuffed animals and a lighting feature – ta da!
This goes out to all my lovely pregnant friends (of which there are about 5 right now) who are dreaming of a lovely little baby room without all the sleepless nights and nappy changes 🙂 Enjoy these gorgeously decorated nurseries!

The move has begun! My husband and I have sold our flat, packed our boxes and have moved out…and in with my parents! While we look for our perfect home, my fantastic family is putting up with all our bits and bobs – it’s truly remarkable how much stuff you can fit into a two-bedroom apartment. After having no qualms in saving money and doing the move ourselves, I can quite happily say that I’m hiring a big truck to move everything the next time round; exhaustion has set in!
From camping equipment to 5 bicycles (yes, 5); from suddenly found wedding presents in the back of the cupboard to way more clothes that we’ll ever need – it’s certainly been quite a process. But it’s all part of starting the next phase of our journey: finding and buying our new house, getting stuck in with DIY and decor ideas, and making it our home…
Will keep you updated on our next moves! 🙂
Happy birthday Madiba! What a legend and inspiration you are – even now at the age of 94!
Happy Birthday Madiba!
As the entire country, continent and the globe celebrates Nelson Mandela’s birthday today by dedicating 67minutes to ‘doing good’ for others, I was thinking just how he was celebrating his birthday today. I would imagine being surrounded by his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren would have given him the most pleasure 🙂
And then I got inspired to post some ‘birthday inspiration’ – ideas that are fun, unique and add a little bit of DIY to any special birthday celebration, whether you’re 4, 24, 64 or 94!

The lovely Kamers vol geskenke festival is currently on at Lourensford Wine Estate out near Stellenbosch, so I thought I’d share with you some of their gorgeous, beautiful, inspirational items that are NEW this year.
The Kamer’s philosophy is simple: “We want you to feel as passionate about the Kamers philosophy as we do – it’s about bringing creative people together by sharing and collaborating on ideas, supporting each other through honesty, tolerance and understanding, and believing in all of our ability and creative talent. ”
Now that’s something pretty awesome! Check this out, only on The Good Girls Guide:
