I was browsing Facebook the other day and came across a post by Wynberg Girls High (where I went to school) about the 2013 Matric Dance; of course I had to read it – and was whisked off 10 years ago into my own dance, where I wore a cream top with matching satin gloves, and a long fish-tail satin skirt in wine red… things have certainly changed, but the concept of ‘what is beautiful’ hasn’t.
I read with admiration the speech made by this year’s head girl Lauren Gildenhuys, who hit the nail on the head when she described the difference between ‘being beautiful’ and ‘having beauty’:
I realised that the words beauty and beautiful have two very different meanings. Beauty is related to truth, goodness and grace, it dances in your souls and makes other people want to be around you for the right reasons. It is timeless, and it will not come off with make-up remover. It will touch hearts, not eyes. And so, although I want you all to know that you look beautiful tonight, what is more important is that you know that you each possess your own dazzling unique beauty, and will never lose it.
And just how beautiful is that? To know that each of us possess our own unique brand of beauty, and that beauty can be seen in moments, in a glance, in a landscape, in an action…I hope this has been inspirational, and that you know that we are all beautiful, because we have beauty.
The last few months I’ve been riding my black and yellow Scott bike around some of the most beautiful coastal routes in the world – the Cape Peninsula! It makes me gobsmacked just how gorgeous Cape Town really is…from the closeness of the wilderness to my house, to the colours of the sea and the diversity on the mountain…
It’s also the fragrances, the textural layers, the vibrancy of the people, architecture, streets, food and more…As I prepare to ride my 4th Argus Cycle Tour this weekend (eek!) I’m dedicating this post to Cape Town. To all those who’ve never been, I invite you to visit – you’ll want to return again and again…

As I type this, it’s raining outside. Granted, it’s not cold, but it’s still not quite summer! Hence today’s post on The Good Girls Guide! Dedicated to the ggeous colours, trends and inspiration of summer, I bring you some lovely Summer makeup inspiration – keeping it light, glowing, colourful and bold 🙂
Personally I think with a bit of a tan, pale pink & peach looks great on lips, while eyes can be bright and well defined – leave the heavy black liner at the bottom of your makeup bag. Mix it all with a bronzer, or glittery blush and you’ll look gorge 🙂 Happy Summer lovely ladies! xxx

Ooh wow, super gorge! I love amazing dramatic lashes – there’s something about them that just says WHAM! I had false lashes for my wedding, and I must say it makes such a difference – particularly in the photos after.
So today on The Good Girls Guide I’ve found a collection of amazing Lashes Inspiration – yes some are TOTALLY over the top, but I vow to get invited to a mad dress up party where I can rock some of these babies! But of course, gorgeous natural lashes are also possible with natural-looking falsies, just apply with a little glue after applying your eye makeup and you’re good to go. Be wow girls!

Check out these amazing 15-hour exposure images by photographer Lincoln Harris in the Australian Outback – utterly magical, unreal and undeniably beautiful!
Posted by the Daily Mail, it details Harris’s photos after having kept the exposure open for up to 15 hours – creating these breathtaking shots of the earth’s movements reflected in the Heavens.
With no purpose other than to share beauty and to inspire you, I’ve reposted these shots – share them too!
There’s nothing that says confident, powerful, sexy and strong…quite like red lipstick! Today’s post on The Good Girls Guide is dedicated to that SASSY GIRL within, bring her out with a gorgeous red pout 🙂
Ruby Red Lips | Alfred Ramos
Hazel eyes and ruby red lips
Red hair I want to caress with my fingertips
That smile of innocence jumps right at me
Like a sly fox ready to attack me
I’m just trying to catch my sigh
My heart is dancing in a moonlit sky
Don’t know why
I cry when heroes die
Do I know when?
This feeling is going to end
I have fallen into an abyss
Dreaming of the ruby red lips I can’t kiss
All my raging emotions dispel
An emptiness surrounding this southern belle
Will she turn and walk away
Just when my nerves are ready to fray
Or like a dozen roses wilting in my hand
Will she blow away in a puff like desert sand?
So how do I put out this fire?
Raging between despair and desire
And if I was looking for clemency
I’d wake up from this fantasy
As her ruby red lips vanish into the night
Blowing a kiss in her midnight flight

Since it’s Friday, The Good Girls Guide thought it would be a good idea to inspire your makeup regime so you can focus on looking glam and gorgeous this weekend, rather than on being boring and same old same old…because no one like ‘second-hand-makeup-face’!
The key for me, has always been about THE EYES! Of course, dramatic eyes is not everyone’s scene, some prefer bold lipstick or well-applied foundation and blush, but there’s nothing that can touch the artistic ability and creativity of amazing eye makeup.
Whether it’s liquid liner in electric blue, bejewelled false eyelashes, or a combination of bright coloured eyeshadows – eye makeup is just gorgeous. But remember, to stand out from the crowd doesn’t necessarily require bright colours and crazy textures. You can easily get an incredible natural look through proper blending, the right mascara and complimentary face makeup. So without further ado – check out our Weekend Makeup Inspiration for Dramatic Eyes:
