Not Kimye? You Can Still Have a Gorgeous Nursery!

So apparently Blu Ivy and North West have the most gorgeous baby rooms in the world – and I imagine, probably the most expensive. While we aren’t Beyonce & JayZ or Kim K & Kanye, it’s entirely possible that we can throw together a beautiful nursery too 🙂 Think vintage pieces, wall stickers, a coat of paint to match theme or gender, your old cot repainted and refurbished, some lovely stuffed animals and a lighting feature – ta da!

This goes out to all my lovely pregnant friends (of which there are about 5 right now) who are dreaming of a lovely little baby room without all the sleepless nights and nappy changes 🙂 Enjoy these gorgeously decorated nurseries!

7 Gorgeous Grey & White Kitchens

Something gorgeous to ogle over today – my absolute favourite decor theme at the moment: grey & white! And where better to display it to its utmost, but your kitchen. And grey doesn’t have to be one dimensional either. Think dove grey, charcoal grey, stone grey, silver grey, pale white grey…it all looks amazing when contrasting.

Here are 7 beautiful grey & white kitchens that make use of all my favourite textures: wood, blackboard, chrome… soak it up and enjoy!

My Favourite PinBoards on Pinterest [Decor Inspiration]

I love Pinterest. It’s been such a great creative outlet, not just for finding great inspiration for house and home, but for giving direction and energy to my blog posts! I have been on Pinterest for a while now – when it was still ‘invite only’ and I have just loved the new look of the site. If you’re on it and haven’t upgraded – do it now! Bigger pins, better experience.

I thought I would share some of my favourite pin boards with you – all to do with home decor, DIY inspiration, clever ideas and some more specifics: kitchens, storage, at-home office spaces. This is all leading up to ‘The Big Move’ and so I’m pinning away so that one day I can use all these great ideas in real life.

Enjoy! If you have some great Pinterest boards of your own, please post the links below in a comment and I’ll be sure to follow your pins 🙂 x

All of my favourite home decor ideas – from couches to prints to frames to vases to ornaments. Anything that catches my eye ends up here 🙂

pin2

This is my ‘ideas’ space with great practical DIY opportunities to take something at home and change it into something really beautiful and lovely.

pin3

For anyone who ever wanted a home office – regardless or not if you think you’d be productive! – this is my inspiration space for dreaming of working at home.

pin8

For all those ‘ah, great idea!’ pins. Some very clever little ideas that look great, don’t appear to take very much work and will make everyone else jealous.

pin6

I’m a little bit silly over traditional farm/Karoo-style decor. I love the all-white rooms, the rustic wood, the vintage chandeliers and the homey feel.

pin7

Places to store and keep. From shelves to cupboards to containers and wardrobes – this is all about great storage ideas – and where to put those tesky items!

Looveeee kitchens. Anything that catches my eye that’s inspirational, beautiful and looks like a great space for dreaming, cooking and conversation ends up here.

At the Fireside | Home Inspiration

I love a good fire. Cracking, roaring, glowing…whatever it does (as long as it doesn’t smoke out the house!), it’s a great addition to any home. My parents have the greatest fireplace – it’s big, draws really well and serves as such a good focal point in a room. A few years back they added a black fireplace to our games room – modern, easy to install and great for warming a bigger place – but I must say, I still love an old fashioned fireplace!

My aunt and uncle used to live in the ‘broekie lace’ part of Observatory in Cape Town, where their old, beautiful Victorian house had some great fireplaces – tiny, backed with mosaic and really attractive. I’ve also stayed on a farm in the Eastern Cape called Blanco (really great family memories) where they had HUGE roaring fireplaces – you could literally climb into the space they were so big. Friends of ours also have a great fireplace at their refurbished house in Rosebank – it separates two rooms with space on either side, so that it can warm and be attended to on both sides! love that feature.

Anyway as it appears to be raining and chilly most of the weekend (even though we’re off to Clanwilliam), this post is all about fantastic fireplaces warming up your Friday!

Safari Style | Some African Inspiration

I get a lot of decor satisfaction with looking at images of beautiful safari lodges in Africa. Yes, I work in E-Marketing, but I also work for an outbound luxury Africa tour operator, so I see images like the below ALL the time! I love the essence and elegance of superb safari style – not cheesy animal print and fur, but classic tented style glamour, old colonial elements and a clear artistic flair.

One of my absolute favourite reserves is Singita – renowned the world over for their luxurious safaris and lodges. They have five SA lodges – Ebony, Boulders & Castleton in the Sabi Sands, and Lebombo and Sweni in the Kruger. They also have one lodge in Zimbabwe – Pamushana and then four in the Grumeti Reserves in Tanzania – Sasakwa, Sabora Tented, Faru Faru and Singita Explore. All offer unique and different experiences, but ALL are sublime when it comes to decor & style. Be inspired for your own home!

Welcome to the White House | At Home Decor

If you’ve got kids, a ‘white’ house is perhaps not the best decor solution, but it can certainly pervade to areas in your home like your bedroom, bathroom and formal lounge – if you have one!

But if you’re a decoraholic, even having kids won’t prevent you having a white home if you so desperately want one! There’s something about the crispness and lightness of ‘all-white’  decor, from the floors to ceiling boards, couches to cupboards, carpets to curtains…

What I love about an all white house is the versatility of colour. A pop of pink and candycane will make a little girls room sweet and colourful, while some Vintage prints add a whole different touch. Swap and change out with pillows on the couches, colourful vases on the shelves and a gorgeous art deco lamp on the counter.

With ‘all white’ you can be ‘all creative’! 🙂
