10 Unique & Beautiful Wedding Bouquets | Floral Inspiration

One thing I love about weddings is the flowers, and in particular, the bouquets. Many brides I’ve known have had the most beautiful bouquet of flowers, some traditional and some a little different. I’ve decided to put together 10 gorgeous and unique bouquets, just to show that you don’t have to always use the typical baby’s breath & white roses combination, or even real flowers at all!

From jeweled bouquets, to posies made out of sweets, lace, soft fabric and even wire butterflies, there’s really a whole lot you can do with your wedding bouquet. My advice if you’re keen on something a little different, is to still make sure it fits in with your general dress/design/decor of the day – maybe even follow through with same treats on the table, vintage books covered in the same fabric or jewels in your hair…

Be inspired ladies! Here’s 10 of the best 🙂

Creative Use of Vases in Your Home | Decor Inspiration

For me, there’s nothing that brightens up a room more than a vase of flowers. It can change the theme of the room (proteas for South African flavour), add to the season (daffodils for spring), create a mood (roses for romance) or bring freshness to a space (think wild flowers or jasmine with those amazing scents).

But one of the best things about flowers is the actual vase! I’ve seen so many creative ways of how different objects, buckets, jugs and more can be used as a vase – and all of that really complements a room’s decor as well as work well with the flowers chosen.

Remember that vases can also contain fruit, vegetables, grasses and wire flowers – it’s really all about what sort of statement you want to make with your vase and arrangement. If you’re looking for some great flower tips & ideas (especially for a wedding or event) in and around the Cape Town area, then I would check out Audrey & Kay.

In the meantime, here are my ideas for creative vases!

Floral Inspiration: Bring Spring & Beauty into Your Home Decor

It’s August next month, and just around the corner is September – Spring! In Cape Town it traditionally rains on the 1st of September (pretty much every year), but it’s still a hopeful time of new things.

Flowers traditionally speak of celebration and new birth, but can also show love, appreciation, sympathy, joy and happiness.  I found this quote recently and it just emphasises the symbolism of flowers as something beautiful that grows from a seed:

“By cultivating the beautiful we scatter the seeds of heavenly flowers, as by doing good we cultivate those that belong to humanity – Robert A Heinlein

We often buy fresh-cut flowers for home, but after about 10 days you have to say ‘goodbye pretty roses’ or ‘farewell lovely proteas’… why not add the effect of flowers to your home though floral decor?

Florals do not have to mean your grandmother’s choice of lounge suite cover; in fact, florals can be amazingly attractive and uplifting to a room – whether real or imitation. And by imitation I do not mean fake flowers, but wall hangings, wallpaper, stickers, lighting fixtures and more. Have a look at my inspiration for SpringFloral Decor!

But imagine creating an event with silver cakestands overflowing with goodies, beautiful china teasets adorning the tables, lace tableclothes and an old fashioned post box? That’s My Pretty Vintage, conveniently South African, affordable and beautiful 🙂

Flower Power: Using Proteas in Your Wedding

I love proteas. They are such a gorgeous, stand-out flower and really add a natural element to any occasion! With the Bokke winning (closely!) over Wales this morning, I thought I’d pay a tribute to the humble South African protea – my country’s national flower.

Proteas look amazing for a wedding, AND they are pretty affordable. The best thing is that they don’t need much additional foliage to make a statement. White linen, clear glasses and white candles are actually the best complimentary items that’ll make your proteas stand out.
