10 Unique & Beautiful Wedding Bouquets | Floral Inspiration

One thing I love about weddings is the flowers, and in particular, the bouquets. Many brides I’ve known have had the most beautiful bouquet of flowers, some traditional and some a little different. I’ve decided to put together 10 gorgeous and unique bouquets, just to show that you don’t have to always use the typical baby’s breath & white roses combination, or even real flowers at all!

From jeweled bouquets, to posies made out of sweets, lace, soft fabric and even wire butterflies, there’s really a whole lot you can do with your wedding bouquet. My advice if you’re keen on something a little different, is to still make sure it fits in with your general dress/design/decor of the day – maybe even follow through with same treats on the table, vintage books covered in the same fabric or jewels in your hair…

Be inspired ladies! Here’s 10 of the best ๐Ÿ™‚

Coloured Wedding Dresses – Ruffles & Bows & All Things Gorgeous

Hello lovelies! So sorry it’s been a while since I posted last, but I’m serving up a beautiful blog post of massive proportions! I’ve been out of the wedding scene for a while – only went to one last year and one this year (so far), but both brides wore the most gorgeous dresses, and therefore I was inspired to post about – you guessed it – dresses.

But not just dresses, but beautiful coloured wedding dresses that grab the eye, make the heart race faster, make the ladies go ‘ah’ and the guys go ‘oh!’…there’s something about taking the traditional white dress and throwing a tint of sorts to make it stand out from the crowd. I’m not suggesting go bold in your colour, but as if you’d dunked it in mint tea or lavender petals and given a character-filled aspect to it. Anyway, enjoy the post, I certainly do!

Sparkle & Shine! Wedding Dress Inspriation

Hi everyone! Apologies for notย  blogging for a while – work has been manically busy and life has been even more so! Having thrown myself into training for the 2 Oceans Half Marathon (gulp – next weekend!) I’m now feeling fit and strong, boosted on by my Argus Cycle Tour training ๐Ÿ™‚ A big winner here – did my best time: 4.36! Very happy with it and hoping to improve again next year.

Anyway, back to today’s blog post! If I stop and think for a second, I realise that a few friends, colleagues & acquaintances have all gotten married in the past couple of weeks – literally about 5 people I know of! And with my 2 year engagement anniversary coming up next month, it got me thinking of my wedding day and how amazing it all was…if I could fly back in time and watch that day unfold again I would! My husband and I were listening to audio clips on his cell phone the other day, listening to what he’d recorded in the weeks and days running up to our wedding and I was reminded just how incredibly special that time of our lives was.

And so, for whimsical, sentimental reasons I’m blogging Wedding Dresses todaybeautiful sparkly, unique and special dresses that I’ve spotted here and there – and all of which could do with some air time! So if you’re married, remember back to the day your wore your dress down the aisle, if you’re looking ahead to your day – dream on ๐Ÿ™‚ & as always, be inspired!

That’s My Pretty Vintage, conveniently South African, affordable and beautiful ๐Ÿ™‚

Cupcakes & Disaster: A Marie Antoinette Fest

The historical disaster that was the Queen of all things ‘over-the-top’, yes we’re talking about Marie Antoinette, has certainly given us some seriously glamourous inspiration for parties, weddings, dress-ups, tea parties and more… Sorry my dear, but we’ll eat cake without you

Glamourized and rocked up by Kirsten Dunst in the 2006 movie ‘Marie Antoinette’, the queen historically met an untimely end, but not before creating a serious name for herself as an overspender of note. Anyway, we’re looking on the bright side of things and dedicating this post on The Good Girls Guide to the gloriously badass, Marie Antoinette ๐Ÿ™‚ MWAH

Flower Power: Using Proteas in Your Wedding

I love proteas. They are such a gorgeous, stand-out flower and really add a natural element to any occasion! With the Bokke winning (closely!) over Wales this morning, I thought I’d pay a tribute to the humble South African protea – my country’s national flower.

Proteas look amazing for a wedding, AND they are pretty affordable. The best thing is that they don’t need much additional foliage to make a statement. White linen, clear glasses and white candles are actually the best complimentary items that’ll make your proteas stand out.

Have a look at the great inspiration below, from gorgeous protea-inspired wedding bouquets, to table decor and more, only on The Good Girls Guide:

Delicious Dessert Tables | Event Ideas

It’s a big thing in the US, but Dessert Tables are only JUST beginning to become popular in SA. While a table with your mom’s milk tart, aunt’s apple crumble and granny’s brandy pudding is great (for a family event), it’s taking this supposedly insignificant aspect of a wedding/event and turning it into a masterpiece!

The closest I ever got was displaying my wedding cake (a three tier dark and white chocolate dotted mousse cake covered in berries, blushing brides and a wire bicycle make for two on top) on a table with proteas and a beautifully ribbon-wrapped serving knife. If I could do it again and have the option for more than just cake, I might just go with one of these decadent dessert tables!

Together with your wedding/event theme, create a gorgeous table with beautiful vases, cake displays, trays and plates with seriously ‘attention-to-detail’ desserts. Check out today’s post on The Good Girls Guide for more awesome ideas ๐Ÿ™‚

Dramatic Dresses | Ballgowns & Cocktails

Goodness I love dramatic dresses! I once did a shoot up at my university for a close friend of mine, and got to wear a super dramatic black satin dress, the skirt the widest I’ve ever seen, a train and all. I felt so empowered (it’s funny how something that gorgeous can do that for you!) It’s worth having a dress up party just to put one on.

Today’s inspirational post on The Good Girls Guide is all about the drama, the passion, the power that emanates from a gorgeous and dramatic dress. Be it red and flirtatious, pink and bubblegum pop, cream and stylish or frilly and fun – let it be dramatic! Maybe you’re looking for bridal gown inspiration, or scrounging around for ideas for that next Masquerade Ball dress up event – well, here you go. Enjoy!

My Wedding: Decor & Ideas Inspiration!

I’ve always loved weddings that go the extra mile in the detail. It’s the light touches, the hard work, the attention to detail that for me, shines as extra special! Having attended quite a few weddings in the past few years, I’ve seen some incredible ideas on what to do with ‘the detail’.

Wedding Flower Arrangements

Wedding Bliss

There are so many elements that go into making a wedding day breathtakingly beautiful, and I suppose it’s totally up to the couple to decide which is the most important. Photography, cake, stationery, decor, outfits, favours, guest entertainment, music, vows & ceremony…there’s plenty to release your creativity upon!

Some great ideas for some of the above:

Photography

Choose your photographer wisely. I would recommend a partnership team: they have experience working together and can ensure a wider variety of pictures. Also, choose someone whose style you enjoy – you want your vibe to be captured 100%! Most of all, feel comfortable! My lovely friends Rebecca and Bruce Meissner rocked our wedding ๐Ÿ™‚ (see them here: Love Made Visible)

Cake

Cake Schmake. Yes, R4000 cakes are around, but trust me, unless you’re a confectionist, you really don’t need one of those! If you have a talent in your family/friend circle who can bake – go for it. Else, investigate cakes that taste amazing but don’t cost a bomb! We did an awesome chocolate fudge mousse cake from Melissas – and then decorated with blushing brides, icing sugar and a wire bicycle made for two!

Cake - Melissa's

Stationery

If you’re creative, do as much as you can yourself (table menus, name tags etc), but even if you are, leave the actual invitation to an expert! Trust me, it’s worth it. Look online for ideas – invites these days can be crazy fun and inspirational, elegant and classic or totally out of the box and different. Think different textures, wording, typefaces and imagery! Thanks to the gorgeous Nikky Dowding of Moonbeams & Polkadots for ours…

Invitation - Moonbeams & Polkdots

Decor

My absolute FAVE! Be specific – think of a theme/colour scheme and then go with it. Don’t look back. We did a vintage theme with lots of proteas, fynbos, old suitcases, lace overlays, clear glasswear of different sizes, a wine menu and white candles... Start with a moodboard and collect ideas. Pinterest is a good place to start brainstorming! Remember, decor is TOTALLY 100% DIY doable – have fun!

Decor - 100% DIY

And those are my tips to making your day extra-special. Get involved, do the hard work and be rewarded with a magical day when it all fades blurrily into the background as all you have eyes for is your husband. You can see how gorgeous it all looked in the photos later on!
