Neon & Pastel Decor | Home Trends

Recently I did a post on Pastel Colours as a big fashion trend for 2012, and have found that splashes of Neon are also making their way into focus – both in fashion and in decor trends. What we are also seeing now is a great combination of neon & pastel together (I know, initally it seems crazy, but actually – it works!) and not only in fashion. Why not brighten up your home for summer with some pastel & neon shades?

The key is to keep the base colours very neutral and quite lightwhite, dove grey or pale pastels work well on walls, while brighter pops of colour look good as accents. Key pastels to remember include: mint, teal, rose, lemon and lilac, while neons look good in fuschia, tangerine, coral and florescent yellow.

Fifty Shades of Pastel – Summer 2012’s Favourite Milkshake Blend

Oh how we love new trends! Sometimes it’s just nice to look at them on the runway or through the pages of glossy fashion magazines; sometimes it’s nice to see the trends come through as functional/wearable clothes in our department stores, and to wander through the rows of gorgeous threads, running our hands over the fabrics; but it’s the BEST when we find an on-trend item that fits, that works with clothes from last year and makes you look good.

Those trends we like 🙂

As a kid my mom dressed me in a fair share of pastel colours, but I don’t think I ever really warmed to the baby blues and bubblegum pinks – I preferred bolder or darker colours in general. But SUDDENLY mint, teal, lemon, peach and lilac are taking over the fashion world – and hey baby, pastels are back in.

Here are some tips from Modalu about Summer 2012’s latest trend:

“SS12 sees the fashion world awash with a palette of light-infused summer pastels. An air of sugary-sweet innocence is in abundance as cool creamy mint, vanilla nude and shark grey dominate the season.

Keep this candy-coloured look chic by focusing on key neutral colours and popping in an unusual pastel shade such as mint.”

Ready, steady, go! Bring the girls to the milkshake barn.

Of Sparkly Pumps & Glitter Heels | Shoe Delights

Whenever I have a long day, I like to unwind with a bit of pinning – really one of the MOST therapeutic exercises I know. And the other day was one of those. Imagine my delight when I came across a whole lot of gorgeous shoes pinned by someone I follow; that just did me in!

I ended up scouring Pinterest and the web for some gorge shoes to share with you – really, I probably wouldn’t wear most of these (I find extraordinarily tall heels a bit hard to walk in, and since I am 5.8, I am then touching the ceiling) but I do find trying on massively tall heels at Mr Price rather fun 🙂

Anyway here’s a selection of fun, crazy, glittery, sparkly shoes, heels & pumps to share – feast your eyes!

Sparkle & Shine! Wedding Dress Inspriation

Hi everyone! Apologies for not  blogging for a while – work has been manically busy and life has been even more so! Having thrown myself into training for the 2 Oceans Half Marathon (gulp – next weekend!) I’m now feeling fit and strong, boosted on by my Argus Cycle Tour training 🙂 A big winner here – did my best time: 4.36! Very happy with it and hoping to improve again next year.

Anyway, back to today’s blog post! If I stop and think for a second, I realise that a few friends, colleagues & acquaintances have all gotten married in the past couple of weeks – literally about 5 people I know of! And with my 2 year engagement anniversary coming up next month, it got me thinking of my wedding day and how amazing it all was…if I could fly back in time and watch that day unfold again I would! My husband and I were listening to audio clips on his cell phone the other day, listening to what he’d recorded in the weeks and days running up to our wedding and I was reminded just how incredibly special that time of our lives was.

And so, for whimsical, sentimental reasons I’m blogging Wedding Dresses todaybeautiful sparkly, unique and special dresses that I’ve spotted here and there – and all of which could do with some air time! So if you’re married, remember back to the day your wore your dress down the aisle, if you’re looking ahead to your day – dream on 🙂 & as always, be inspired!

Heart of Africa | Fashion Inspiration

Hello lovelies! Sorry for the long absence – I have been overlanding through Africa (Namibia, Botswana & Vic Falls in Zimbabwe) for 2 weeks – an unforgettable, amazing and utterly special experience. Bush camping inthe wild, seeing elephants on the side of the road, marvelling at sky-scraper rock formations, being enthralled by magical sunsets and falling asleep to the sound of birds, bush-babies and the night…

And now in light of that FANTASTIC experience (by Africa Travel Co. in case you were wondering), I’m inspired to share some African-esque fashion ideas. Live the WILD girls!

Gaga for the Lady – So You Think She’s Got Style?

I’m currently obsessed with So You Think You Can Dance – one of my absolute favourite shows. I love the incredible creativity, style and amazeballs moments when you see a dancer do something you’ve never dreamt existed. One of the cool things about the show is that they have regular celebrity guest judges, and this week it was the one and only Lady Gaga.

Now I must say, I still think she’s pretty cooky and odd, and sometimes downright strange. However, her complete honesty, transparency as a person (even through the crazy clothes and makeup) and truthful praise and criticism of the dancers was quite an insight into her character.

I really guess it was a bit of ‘don’t judge the book by it’s cover’ situation! She’s still not my favourite, and I do find her lyrics to be offensive and cryptic at times, but still, she is just something else. Today’s post on The Good Girls Guide is all about being Gaga for the Ladya style diary
