We spent some time house hunting yesterday and came across one house that had the most beautiful French-inspired kitchen. Really well done with a lot of attention to detail: white crockery, glass fronted doors, slightly vintage-styled white wooden cabinets, a butcher’s sink and lots of light airy space…
There’s a lot you can do to transform your kitchen into a French-styled space: a coat of white paint, vintage door handles on your cabinets, strategically placed wooden shelves displaying great knicknacks, wooden detail, open shelves displaying your crockery and even some vintage wallpaper 🙂 Today’s post on The Good Girls Guide is all dedicated to beautiful French kitchens – be inspired and share your inspiration!

I simply love farm-style country decor, especially if it represents the look & feel of one of my favourite places – the Karoo. My husband and I have been house-hunting for the past few weeks, and I’ve seen a couple of houses that have such character and history, really showing off their farm-house heritage.
I’ve put together a moodboard of some of my favourite inspirational images that showcase farm-style country decor – the rest of the Pinboard is here if you’d like to see the photos in more detail! Check out these two posts for more great interior inspiration: Farm-Style Country Decor and Karoo Decor Inspiration.
Christmas is around the corner everyone! I can’t believe 2012 has gone so fast 🙂 While I’m beginning to swelter in 30 degree heat, I know that there are many of you who are wintering in sub-zero snowy climates; I’ve spent a few Christmases in snow, and it’s really special and adds to that truly traditional Christmas feeling, but then again, I love a hot Christmas!
Think lazy afternoon lunches out on the patio, plenty of pims&lemonade, beach days & red bobbled hats, afternoon snoozes out on a mattress on the lawn, leftovers with bubbly, swimsuits and stripey tans, presents and early morning walks…
To celebrate all the fun and festivity of Christmas, here’s my usual selection of fantastic Christmas-inspired decor, DIY tricks & tips and some craft ideas too. I hope you and your loved ones have a truly blessed time this year, and that the joy and love of Jesus is with each of you 🙂 MERRY MERRY!

Today it is officially 32 degrees in Cape Town, which officially means that Summer has arrived! Very excited to start hitting the beach, sun-tanning, wearing cute shorts & skirts, staying outside longer in the evenings and just soaking up the happy vibes 🙂
To celebrate the start of November (already, I can hardly believe it!) and the lovely weather, I have found some amazing beach decor inspiration with this amazing home right on Bakoven beach in Cape Town. Beach Bungalow is classic beach style: long lazy wooden decks, crisp white wooded floors and open rafters, and of course – beautiful beach views.
Some ideas for incorporating a bit of ‘beach style’ into your house this summer: collect drift wood or simply get some old pieces of wood from a woodcutter, paint white and give a quick sand and arrange artfully on a dresser or hang on the wall; collect shells, drill holes in them and string them up in your bathroom or outside on your patio or porch; bring in a nautical theme with some recovered stripey cushions, curtains or kitchenwear in red, white and navy.
Have a super BEACH inspired weekend! x

My husband and I just got back from Kruger & the Sabi Sands on the weekend, after spending a week up in the lowveld, in the park and in the sands enjoying some of South Africa’s most luxurious safari lodges and tented camps, as well as SUPERB game-viewing. Apart from the wildlife, the heat and the luxury, I always am so interested in the style & decor of the lodges, really capturing a specific type of feel that is consistent throughout.
We stayed at Cybele Forest Lodge near White River in the Panorama Route regions, really beautiful lodge well known for their food, excellent walks and pretty garden scenery; Tinga Narina Lodge, a fantastic 5 star game lodge in a private concession on the border of the Sabi Sands and close to Skukuza Camp; Hamiltons Tented Camp, situated south of Satara Camp in its own private concession and reliving the age-old classic colonial safari; and Elephant Plains Game Lodge, a really comfortable and welcoming safari lodge in the heart of the Sabi Sands – South Africa’s most prolific wildlife destination.
Here are some pics of the lodges, just to give you a taste! All to do with the incredible decor, style and feel:

With all the emphasis on bright pops of colour in the fashion world at the moment, I don’t see why it can’t be as easily incorporated at home?! Gone are the days when classy neutrals and various shades of white dominate homes – bring on the colour!
Check out these great examples of adding pops of colour to your home, and it doesn’t all mean you have to paint entire rooms bright yellow, pink or turquoise (although you can if you wanted to!) Accessories, accessories, accessories: from colourful kitchen items, to scatter cushions and colourful lamps, there are plenty ways to add a touch of colour to any room in the house.
Happy Saturday all!
